Project Altar – London’s First Illuminated Art Trail of Memorial Shrines – Abney Park Cemetery, N16
From 31st October to 3rd November, celebrate the lives of lost loved ones in a beautiful, illuminated art trail of memorial shrines. This is a love letter to our departed and a poignant reminder that, in troubled times, there is more that unites us than divides us. The shrines will feature over 1000 photos, stories and tributes from contributors all over London and you are invited to take part. This is a celebration of life curated by artists, film set designers, architects and your lost loved ones. A lovely alternative to Halloween and family friendly, half term activity with crafting, woodland walk and cafes, bars and shops of Stoke Newington.
This is a secular event and all are welcome. From 14th century witches to non-conformists, your great-grandad to your first pet. Altar will honour them all. Please send us your pictures, your tributes and your memories of those that you have lost. Or use our printing station to craft them onto the communal shrines. Help us to create something magical. Contact [email protected] if you would like to get involved.
This is a community, not-for-profit project, the first of its kind in London. By day, entry is free and there will be half-term activities for kids and dog-friendly walks. By night, we are given a rare opportunity to enter the cemetery after dark. Open especially for ticket-holders the illuminated path will come to life on the way to the chapel, the centrepiece of the shrine. Tickets from £6.50
