American Legion Post 233 High School Oratorical Scholarship Program–A Constitutional Speech Contest
The Elk Grove American Legion Post 233 is planning to offer the 2025 Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program–A Constitutional Speech Contest. This American Legion program was first offered in 1938 and has been offered by various posts across the nation since that date. The “main purpose of the American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution among students. Participants grow in leadership ability, their capacity to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and understanding of the rights, responsibilities, obligations and privileges of U.S. citizens”. Post 233 offers a 1st place award of $300; 2nd place award is $200 and 3rd place award is $100. The 1st place winner may advance up to the National Contest which offers a scholarship of up to $25,000. Rules and eligibility can be found at Legion.org/Oratorical. The contest is tentatively scheduled for January 11, 2025, but may be scheduled as early as December 2024. Details will be posted in The Elk Grove Citizen as they are firmed up.
